Monte Fort, located in Macau, was built in the 17th century. The fort buildings, church and the Jesuit College were destroyed in 1838 by a fire. A public park today, the fort offers wonderful views of the city and allows you to see the history of Macau's largest fort. Originally, the fort had enough storage to survive two years under siege, but that was never a necessity. In fact, the cannons at the fort were only fired once at an enemy, which was when the Dutch were being driven away.
