Golden Gate National Recreation Area

Not to be confused with the Golden Gate Park, this one is 74,000 acres large and offers a great place for walking, cycling, hiking, etc.

Admission to the area is free.
Some attractions may require extra fees.

Business Hour

Visitor centers usually open between 9 am and 10 am and close between 4 pm and 6 pm.

Dogs dogs dogs galore. So fun to bring the kids and the pup. All the dogs are so friendly and playful. Swimming is safe and fun ride is not too high usually. Absolutely beautiful views. We bring a sun tent and a beach bbq and make a day of it. Bathrooms are big and not too bad.

There are some illustrate/ small scale of bridge structure to explain the Golden Gate Bridge design. Highly recommend to take time explain kids about the science to get them to interest science and engineering. If you are not in a hurry, you can rent a bike or walk on golden gate bridge. Be careful walking on the golden gate bridge. There are a lot of bicycle riders. They have the left lane on north bound of walk way. Check the sign on the pedestrian path before starting.

It's a really nice place to get out, stretch your legs, and picnic. There's a statue there, but I was more interested in the views. There are 50 cent telescopes to view landmarks such as Angel Island and Alcatraz. There is also a legend on the telescope that shows you where to look. On clear days you can see San Francisco across the water. It's a really nice vista point. There is ample parking, and I believe there's a tour bus line that stops here as well.

Great views, but be prepared for windy weather. Worth to take a scarf and warm clothes. Don't be suggested by temperature forecast, the wind is really very cold. Nice sidewalk and a lot of places to take a photo. You can easily left the car for free for four hours, during the week you shouldn't have a problem to find a place for your vehicle.
