Vatnajökull National Park is a protected wilderness area in Iceland centered around Vatnajökull glacier. The vast region is defined by its massive glaciers, snowy mountain peaks, active geothermal areas and rivers. Major landmarks within the park include Jökulsárlón, a glacial lagoon with icebergs, and the Svartifoss and Dettifosis waterfalls. A range of campgrounds and hiking trails crisscross the preserve.
