The San Antonio River Walk

The San Antonio River Walk is a network of walkways along the banks of the San Antonio River.Lined by bars, shops and restaurants, the River Walk is an important part of the city's urban fabric and a tourist attraction in its own right.

Today, the River Walk is an enormously successful special-case pedestrian street, one level down from the automobile street. The River Walk winds and loops under bridges as two parallel sidewalks lined with restaurants and shops, connecting the major tourist draws from the Alamo to Rivercenter Mall, to the Arneson River Theatre, to Marriage Island, to La Villita, to HemisFair Park, to the Tower Life Building, to the San Antonio Museum of Art, and the Pearl Brewery. During the annual springtime Fiesta San Antonio, the River Parade features flowery floats that float down the river.

Beautiful river walk and gardens. Definitely worth a visit; however, be prepared for the most basic of tourist trap money extractors. Same tourist crap as Clifton Hills Niagara Falls or Myrtle Beach, etc. Definitely takes away from the historic nature of the church and Alamo in my opinion. Also my suggestion is to stay in right in the river walk area. I stayed in a cheap motel outside and it was disgusting. The area around the tourist spot is a dump and loaded with homeless people. I was followed by 2 homeless people back to my motel leaving the bars at 1am.

The environment. The tourist all around you makes u feel like u fit in looking at everything. Boat rides on the river while a tour guide is telling you about the scenery & history of San Antonio. The food & river side shows. Holidays are nice to visit as well. The river walk is always well kept.
