I have an issue with the service primarily. I have always loved Paul's and have visited two cafes and both have poor service. The Paragon cafe is always understaffed, I feel bad for the one waiter who is trying to keep up with the tables! The Paul's at Takishimaya has rude and lazy staff. One waiter in particular was just yawning and looked like he just couldn't be bothered with anyone's order, including mine. Food is good but the service needs help. This isn't a place for a quick meet.

Even when you are half an hour away from the last order, there is no valid reason to be rushed into ordering the food especially when the names are terribly difficult to pronounce. To make things worse, the supposedly dessert & coffee was served followed by my soup. The table was unable to accommodate my partner and my order and I had to gorge the desserts down very quickly followed by the very diluted carrot soup. Pretty good food; enjoyed my sirloin steak a lot. But what lets this place down is the appalling poor service. 1) Cheerless inattentive staff who don't tell you the list of items unavailable beforehand so you waste your time deciding on dishes they can't serve, 2) My partner's main course was served so late when I almost finished my meal - not a word of apology or any prior notice of a delay, 3) A staff who got defensive and gave attitude after we told him he should avoid laying his whole hand on the lips of our drinking glasses while refilling water. Fancy uniforms don't make you a fancy restaurant. Please send your staff for training. Food: 4 stars, Service: 2 stars.
