I went to the Woodland Zoo for the first time and was very pleasantly surprised with the different exhibits. Most of the animals are kept in large areas that allows them to move around as if they were in their original habitat. One of the things I really enjoyed is that there are more than one species of animals in most of the areas. The park is divided by Continents so you see the species that are native to that Continent. The Reptile House was closed because they had experienced a fire. There were people who work at the Zoo located in all the different areas to answer questions regarding the different animals. Several of them told us various stories about the different animals. Our favorite were the Chimpanzees. They were taking naps near the glass wall and you could see the dad, the mom and a baby who was born at the Zoo. I also loved watching the otters swim around in a playful way. The grounds are lovely and very well maintained. There is a lovely old fashioned Horse Carrousel that works with solar energy. I will definitely go back to visit.

Woodland Park Zoo is one of the most humane zoos that I have been too. The areas for the animals are spacious and clean, though that same spaciousness causes problems for us, who are trying to see the animals. Despite what other reviews say, Woodland Park Zoo is relatively small, making it easy for everyone to get from exhibit to exhibit. Older children/adults be advised, like in every zoo, the animals don't really do much. Out of all the animals I saw, the majority of the animals were sleeping. From what I have seen, Woodland Park Zoo is the type of zoo you might want to visit once every 2 years, or for some type of special event. There's not much to see but if its your first time, its worth a shot.

I've never had a bad experience going to the Woodland Park Zoo. I've gone there since I was a child and find something new to learn every time I go. The enclosures for the animals are large enough to give them room to feel at home and move around, and appear to be as happy and friendly as the zookeepers that run the place. Throughout the year they host after-hours events like concerts in the summer, and during the winter the holiday lights are spectacular. Will definitely return again and again.
