Bill Speidel's Underground Tour

The Seattle Underground is a network of underground passageways and basements in downtown Seattle that was ground level at the city's origin in the mid-19th century. After the streets were elevated these spaces fell into disuse, but have become a tourist attraction in recent decades.

In 1965, local citizen Bill Speidel realized there might be interest (and profit) in the subterranean ruins. He established "Bill Speidel's Underground Tour" and took customers on a tour of what was left underneath Pioneer Square.

Loved it! The guide was friendly and personable. The guide had a lot of great information and tried to make the tour funny for the kids. If you wanna learn a little about history of Seattle that you probably didn't know, go on this tour!

Having lived in Seattle for a while now, I finally found myself on the Underground Tour. Andi, our tour guide, was fantastic. The tour weaves in and out of various underground areas around Pioneer Square (conveniently also used by bootleggers during prohibition). It's a very informative and entertaining tour of Seattle's colorful history; including the "sewing industry". Whether for locals or tourists, Bill Speidel's Underground Tour is highly recommended!
