Historical military fort from the Civil War era. It's located on the tip of Santa Rosa Island. You can take a self guided tour or there is guided ones with very knowledgeable park rangers. Unfortunately, the interior is not wheel chair accessible, but the open air parade grounds are. The fort is free but there is a fee going into the Gulf Island National Seashore area. A must see for tourists and locals alike. Check thier website for date to the "Candle light" tour.

It was great to see a piece of history so well preserved. Lots of history read. Just make sure to bring your gym shoes. Preferably ones that are water resistant. Lots of wet areas. Inside certain spots. There is plenty to see and the view from up top of the fort was beautiful.

Tons of history to climb and explore! Lots of walking. A little museum with a video to watch to explain some of the things throughout the fort. The beaches are beautiful. There is a gift shop as well. Don't forget your National Parks passport to get it stamped.

A++ if you do not mind not having full hookups. this is our all time favorite campground. Quite, not over crowded beaches, bay is great for the little ones, prettiest white beaches i have ever seen. touring the forts and battery's is a day in itself. plus close enough to the local action.
