Frontier Texas!

This charming museum reminds us of the days where cowboys used to roam the old Texas and wild wild west wasn't only a film industry theme.

Frontier Texas is definitely a place to visit if you're curious about history, especially if you're new to the area. It's located nearby Everman Park (a former train station) with Dr Suess sculptures and a beautiful fountain. Also in the area is Monk's coffee shop and several downtown restaurants. If you want to spend a quiet afternoon out in the town, this isn't a bad way to start it! But to the people complaining about a MUSEUM not being baby/toddler friendly... Museums exist to educate, not entertain. A larger museum might cater to kids, but I can't imagine that being the biggest reason to go. What child under 5 is going to have enough attention span to enjoy being there long enough to justify going? There are also going to be plenty of exhibits focused on people who have long been dead. I wouldn't bring a crying baby to a war memorial or a college class, so why would I take one to a museum? Your lack of planning (to find a sitter) is not everyone else's emergency, and entire groups should not have to sacrifice having a good experience just for your sake. Abilene has plenty of other places for you to take ALL of your kids. So I'm giving Frontier Texas 5 stars, because they don't deserve 1 (especially since they clearly take the time to personally respond to legitimate criticisms and feedback). A big thank you to the staff and volunteers who have put in work to preserve our history.

Great place. My son loved it and it kept his attention at age 7. Lots of good Texas history. Really fun. Affordable too.

Engaging history museum. I had an enjoyable time touring Frontier Texas. I enjoyed the artifacts and signs. There was plenty of historical content to read on numerous signs. However, there are also a number of interactive video displays that connect with the opening and closing videos.
