The choices of food are wide range. We had the assamm fried rice with fried chicken and fried egg, and Hainanese rice with panko crusted fried chicken. Both meals were prepared nicely. Ambiance-wise, the restaurant is designed like a typical hawker food-style layout, in a warehouse-like environment. It can be a tad echoey because of the "open air" environment.

I order Bbq pork fried rice and Padt thai, food was okay but you can get better price and better taste in somewhere else. Not to mention, the staff tend to avoid when we ready to order even though the shop was quiet. The staffs represent the place. Could be better service.

Super friendly staff... after living 4 months in Thailand I finally found an authentic Thai restaurant to eat. Best Pad Thai in Sydney :)

Tried many thai restaurants in sydney. Can’t find anything close to what i can eat in thailand but this is so far i like the best. Everytime i go is quiet, not crowded, quite dark inside but i actually like this atmosphere. I like the rice dishes there, i can see the skill there, everything is perfect. Mocktail drinks are good too. Tried one high rating thai place in westfield, was just very average compare to Assám.

go early ahead of the peak hour crowds and you will be treated to authentic Thai fare in this tucked away gem at the basement of the iconic QVB. Some friends don't like the dim basement style decor but I personally don't mind it. Their Thai crispy fish herbal rice dish is crunchy heaven with the right hit of sweet basil. And finish off with dessert of the day, if you still have room.
