Love to know about plants or not - this place is a must visit if you are in Montreal! Plan for a day or at least a half, because there are a lot to see. Be prepared to walk, wear comfortable clothing and if you bring some food with you, you can have a mini picnic at designated sitting areas. Before you visit, just go to their website and make a list of gardens you wish to see, otherwise it is pretty overwhelming with so many options. Multiple visits are recommended: at different seasons and at different time of the day.

Tourists and residents: you must go here at least once. The plants are arranged by geographical region, and the regions are decorated well. Stroll through the Japanese gardens and view the Zen garden, the bonsai and the exhibit of the year. Walk through the Chinese gardens and view the stunning pond and sample some tea. View the trees and bushes in the Alpine garden with its waterfall. It's a beautiful walking experience, and the photos you'll get are well worth it. If you like insects, there is an I insectarium too.

This was the second time in two years that I had been to the Botanical Gardens in October during the showing of the Chinese Lanterns. It is quite a sight at night when the lanterns light up all over the Chinese section of the park. This is a nice quiet and romantic night or a great activity with young children who will be in awe of the lanterns. This park is world class and a must see. I would recommend buying tickets on-line to avoid the hour wait, and getting there for at least 5 or 6 pm, so you may also see the park and floral sculptures before it gets dark. This will also help you avoid extremely long lines and actually find a parking space. At around 7 to closing expect a giant crowd of people on the weekend following each other very slowly along the paths to see all the lanterns. Take your time and enjoy it as this will be a slow evening, but worth the time!
