Marble House

Marble House was built between 1888 and 1892 for Mr. and Mrs. William K. Vanderbilt. It was a summer house, or "cottage", as Newporters called them in remembrance of the modest houses of the early 19th century. But Marble House was much more; it was a social and architectural landmark that set the pace for Newport's subsequent transformation from a quiet summer colony of wooden houses to the legendary resort of opulent stone palaces.

We did these during the off season and loved the guided tour! It was a tad pricey for just one, but once you do it the others are much cheaper to add onto the ticket. Make sure you're up early so you can do all three and get your monies worth for the ticket price. If you're a fan of History and Captains of Industry this is a must see place.

Great experience. Worth the time/money to go here. Amazing that this was someone's summer home for just a month or two out of the year.
