Lots of information on local wildlife and plants. Souvenirs and toilet facilities... Use the loos here, as the dunes themselves are a few minutes drive further up, which have limited toilet facilities.

5 stars for the park, 3 stars for the Visitor Center. The VC is mostly geared around the gift shop with a few quality displays on the geology, formation of the area. Remember the creek is from run off so go spring/early summer for that and bring buckets of bug spray. The campground inside the park fills up quickly so there is a private one "Oasis" outside the park and Zapata Falls campground a couple miles further.

This is an unexpected natural wonder in the south Colorado Rockies. Amid the mountains there is a little piece of the Sahara desert, or so it appears. There is a very nice visitors center/museum and gift shop, and tourists are invited to climb the sand dunes, which is much harder than it looks. The dunes are a couple of hundred feet high! But the view from the top of the main dune is breathtaking. One important word of advice: If you have a digital camera, you can take pictures but put it in a case or plastic bag when not in use, and keep it that way until you get back to your car. My camera was off in my pocket, but sand gets in your pockets from walking and sliding in the sand. The sand got into the inner workings of the camera so I ruined my camera.
