Went once and I have found my favourite restaurant in town! Great service and food. Complimentary bread was amazing! The pork cheek appetizer was impressive and so were the mains (salmon and lamb). Even the mashed potatoes that came with the lamb was so full of flavour!

Big flavour in a small town. Christchurch is small town for me travelling from a bigger city. However, Twenty Seven Steps hit the sweet spot for being a big fish in a small tank. Brilliant steak cooked perfectly as ordered (medium rare). Truffle taste and smell throughout every single bite. 5 stars for quality of food. 4 stars for service. 3 stars for ambient.

Absolutely delightful! The food and drink here was exceptional. We had had three expensive tasting menus in the preceding days, yet this place still stood out. Such an interesting food options including lambs kidneys (somehow delicious!) and perfectly cooked venison. The wait staff were very attentive and despite being very busy found time to have a chat about the wine and menu options. Truly spectular, a must visit for fine dining in Christchurch.

First and only dinner in Christchurch. We had done some research and this was our pick. Booked the day before and had a great meal today. Pork cheeks for starters and salmon and lamb for middle. Very well made all of it. They had several daily additions to the normal menu. Good wine list with an impressive range of nz wines. Service was attentive and friendly.

1 star removed for service. We had a 6pm booking on a Thursday and the place was quiet. Service was great to start. Soon after the place filled up we were pretty much ignored for the last half of our first experience there. A great restaurant should be able to maintain great service with a full house. The four stars given account for the fantastic meals we had. Squid to start and salmon as one main and the vegetarian dish sweet potato freekah as the other. All delicious, locally sourced and fresh ingredients. Wonderfully presented and full of flavor. Outdoor seating available.
