Xiahai Chenghuang Temple

Located near Yanping Riverside Park and the Ningxia Night Market, Xiahai Chenghuang Temple was built in 1856. Locals frequent the temple to seek blessings for good fortune. The temple is dedicated to the so-called “City God” who was understood to protect the old city walls and moats from attack. Today, Xiahai Chenghuang Temple hosts statutes representing nearly 600 deities, giving it the highest statue density in Taiwan. As an important cultural location, it is a worthwhile stop on any tour.
